Carmen Does The Hanger Dance

November 15, 2014

It is Hanger Dance time!!!!! When I was asked to make an appearance I had not idea what a Hanger Dance was. I thought maybe it was like the Tarantella only you dance around hangers. It was not until I arrived did it begin to make sense. It was a huge gala held, you ready for this, inside an airplane hanger. Have you ever been inside a hanger? They are huge!!! Well at least to me they are.
This gala was a fundraiser for the Sundown Patrol  and what a service they provide. They actually patrol the water ways of Lee County from the air. What a great service that is! Venice It. could such a club what with all those canals. My friends Marsha and Earl put this gala on and did a great job too!!!

So this gala reminded me of weddings back home in my village. Long tables all decorated. An orchestra for dancing. Buffet food, cake, beer, wine....the only thing missing were the wedding gifts. But they did have gifts of sorts. They had what they called a silent auction where people could win some grand prizes.

They had plenty of entertainment. So who are these gals called the Florida Calendar Girls? They must be important because they were having their picture taken with this rather handsome pilot. They took so many that by the time they were done and he left. So alas I was unable to have a photo op with him. Now these gals did perform some dancing seem like they are great fun. Shhh I did hear some people say these gals are all over the age of 50!

Another group was called Rowdy Rhythms. They must be pretty famous to as they have won competitions so I heard some people say. They did what they called country line dancing. I do not know what country but it was not Italian that was for sure. They were pretty fun to watch but the best is when they gave group lessons so we all could do these dances with them... as everyone is so much bigger than me I figured I would get "stomped" on should I try one of these dances....but the Cotton Eye Joe looked fun.
I was surprised to see Francine there....she was selling tickets to win a large TV. I did win the TV you ask? NOOOOOOO!!!!! Thanks Francine!!! Seems I run into her a lot around SWFL. I think she is what is called a groupie. So I think we should run a contest to see how many times she has her picture taken with me in a month! It was nice to see other familiar faces like Jim and his wife. We also ate with this other great couple from a place called Pennsylvania. They said it was a long ways away and they drove down just to come to this event. They were very taken with me but I think it was their first time partying with a cannoli as they had never heard of a cannoli before.

As I was recently home from my stint in rehab we called it an early night but not before I posed with  local celeb....Craig Wolf....He asked me if I posed with just anybody. Of course I replied "No, just famous people"!!!! He seemed like a nice fellow and is well known throughout all of SWFL! He is a handsome chap now don't ya think?

I really had a great time and it was nice to experience such a gala with local SWFL people!!! So far everybody I have met have been really nice! I am lovin my adventure here in SWFL!
