Carmen's Adventure at Tucker Vision Center

January 2 2015

In my little village we have an eye doctor that everyone goes to. Dr. Corleone is an expert when it comes to cannoli eyes. I was worried I would never find such an expert here in SWFL. That was until I met Dr. Terry Tucker. I met Dr. Tucker at the What’s Up SWFL Networking Bash and he told me he would have no problem giving me an eye exam. What a lucky cannoli I am!

So today was my appointment day and what a great experience it was. The staff John, Ruby and Norma were just great. I even met their office manager Suzi. I hear Suzi is pretty famous in her own right as she is very involved in the community and does a lot of networking.

Dr. Tucker has some equipment that we do not have in my little village. The Auto Refractor was pretty cool as it took pictures of my pupils so the Doctor would have a baseline to work from in determining if I needed glasses or not. I see perfectly fine so I know I will not need any glasses….not this diva! They then take this little white card and place it in a computer that sends the info over to the Doctor. What a technological marvel that is. Miss Ruby did this part of the test with me as well as having me read the eye chart. I could read the smallest of small print or so I thought anyway.

After Ruby was finished I waited briefly for Dr. Tucker to arrive. He is such a warm and friendly guy and oh so knowledgeable too. He took a peak into my little cannoli eyes. Then he broke the news that I was not so happy about…… Seems I need glasses. Imagine that, this diva needing glasses….I don’t think so. Why I can see perfectly fine! Glasses….me…no way! “Yes way” is what he told me and then went through this most oddest test to show me that I did…. Now let me ask you this, what is up with this which is clearer 1 or 2 thing they have you do? That was hard as it was so close there was hardly any difference. I was so confused. He must have done it 10 times, at least. How is a cannoli supposed to tell? What if I get it wrong? Ahhh that is where that baseline auto refractor testing thingy I did earlier comes into play. Whew, that is good to know. I hate to admit it but some of those choices did make seeing the smallest of small print easier. What a hard pill to swallow…!!!!! Needing glasses!!!! Egads!!!!

I thought the testing was over but then he told me I had to have my eyes dilated….with drops no less! Never had them before. OMG what a weird experience that was. It was so hard to see anything and the light really bothered my eyes. After taking another look into my pretty diva eyes, he told me everything was a ok, no cataracts, glaucoma or any other eye problems. Well that is good news!!!! This cannoli is way too young for such things. Well I like to think so anyway.

Truthfully though, Dr. Tucker’s s exam was much more thorough than anything Dr. Corleone did. He explained what he was doing and why and really took his time with me.  He was so gentle and was careful not to injure my shell. I am a delicate cannoli ya know. Despite the news of needing glasses it was a rather pleasant experience. I am still not overly pleased with that news…

When it came to choosing what to do to correct my vision I did not realize I had so many options. I could pick out some frames or contacts. Contacts you say, you have contacts for cannoli’s??? Even though they had they gorgeous frames called Diva’s…I opted for contacts.

They have these contacts where you can change your eye color….no really they do. I have always wanted to have blue eyes and now I can. So I chose these brilliant blue ones. They have this iPad app called the Color Studio. It lets you see what you would look like with your color choice. We do not have that in my little village. Heck we barely have iPhones let alone iPads in doctors’ offices. Ya know what else is really cool? They can give you a free trial (nonprescription) so you can test them out, see if you like them and like the color. How special is that? I must say I was impressed!

So even though my little cannoli eyes need some correction, Dr. Tucker and his staff really educate you.  You leave there with a better understanding of what is happening with your eyes. They also educate you as to what your best options for correction is, even if you are a vain diva like me. They made it such a pleasurable experience that it softened the blow of needed contacts. So thank you Dr. Tucker and all your staff for helping this little cannoli see better.
